The truth about Magic cleaning sponges

I usually start out with a picture. Give you something to look at. A little give away about the coming post. Or something to make you hungry, if it happens to be food related. While I have never used those Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, I have heard that they work wonders. But so does the sprinkle of baking soda on a basic sponge, that I have been using for as long as I can remember. Back to the point. I recently found out what those so-called ‘magic’ sponges are made of. They are nothing more than a melamine sponge that is made with nothing less than formaldehyde. That’s right. Formaldehyde. What they use to preserve dead animals in jars for science. What is used on dead bodies. Now, I don’t know where you stand on this, but I don’t plan on cleaning my house with something that is made with formaldehyde!! I have kids. I don’t want anyone in my house breathing in whatever is left over from using this. My three year old still licks stuff. Yah. No thanks. I don’t really care how little of this crap is actually in there. I’ll pass.

Now, let’s talk about baking soda. Baking soda is miracle powder. It is a naturally occurring mineral that is completely safe to ingest, biodegradable and safe in every way. Doesn’t mean I’d put it in my eye because anything that gets in there just burns and sucks. But for everything else. It is non abrasive but you can still scrub things with it. Sprinkle some on a reusable sponge (I have a seperate sponge just for cleaning), and you can clean anything. Even safe for your weird three year old to lick.
